this just in...

bjork is so fucking hot.

walmart is a "public use"?

to those of you who find it interesting, slate has a big dialogue about the recent emminent domain case (which irks me in that hackneyed "slippery slope" sort of way). the discussion branches into the ten commandment cases (which came out much more reasonably than i feared).

i got turned onto that dialogue through a brief discussion of these matters on Big Gray. my modest contribution to that discussion kind of "got served", but i stick to my guns. BG, by the way, turned 30 yesterday. congratulations [condolences?] are in order. at the very least, he got to drink a huge free blue hawaiian at the manhattan.

the new link in town?

so i ended up looking at this blog called "riff central" through a link on mezmerization eclipse. props to those guys, 'cause this shit is quality. here is the interview with karen o, with a link to that cool adidas ad her boy spike jones made. reminds me of the da ali g show. here west coast mc "the game" is interviewing one of the arcade fire guys. i suspect i'm a late comer to this shit, but regardless, if you haven't checked it out please do. the last post on riff central was a month ago; i hope that doesn't mean it's over.

Astra will be interviewed on TRL tomorrow afternoon at 4:00!

Is Astra The Next N'Sync?

...I think so. Saucy, Wes, Josiah, and Paul are like the new N'Sync of Athens. Now, I know that their influences are mainly from bands like...Sun Volt, Wilco, Jeff Tweedy, Sun Volt, and of course Wilco but their music rings out pure N'Sync to me. Saucy is pure Justin Timberlake to me. While Wes has musings of JC Chasez. Paul is more like a Lance Bass. Josiah is more like Chris Kilpatrick and Joey Fatone all rolled into one.

Why are they the next N'Sync you may ask? First off, everyone "loves" Astra. Everyone in Athens are at their shows. Who these people are I don't know, but they're there. Next, they're proclaimed by the bible of Athens The Flagpole (which tries to the be the Rolling Stone for the Athens community) as the saviors of rock and roll. Next, look at how much pussy they get. I mean this band has groupies everyone. Although I must admit I would like to be their negro whore and wrestle with all of them in a vat of wild honey. Now, there's an Astra house?!? Next thing you know they'll have their own weekly action/adventure cartoon on public access for the whole town of Athens to watch.

I dunno...I see the all the signs. Astra is definitely the N'Sync of Athens, GA.

disconcerting

this week's onion is weird. it's still funny, but the change makes me uncomfortable.

the sauceman cometh

sauce: "there's a lot of stuff going on, but you'd never know it by talking to me."

truer words have never been spoken.

classic ATH

i have to agree with kenniebloggins that last friday was a quintessential athens night. some of the highlights:

1- rusans was a fuckin hit. our ridiculously large group (probably around 30 folks) turned that motha out, demonstrating a boisterousness that prompted mr. rusan himself (who was dressed like a miami mafia don) to buy a round of sake bombs for the table.
2- most of the group moved to 283, at the behest of the lovely returning athens expatriot, ms. yun. team clermont folks were already on the scene. sparkz, anyone?
3- on to tasty world, for the divorce reunion show. i don't see many hardcore shows, but maybe that should change. got me fuckin juiced.
4- krush girls. being as it's the summer, the 40 watt was thankfully low on 18 year olds. i've been known to take shots at the krush girls in the past, but i should let off on that shit. i have a great time almost every time i go.
5- rounded the night out sauntering over to the deville pool. didn't actually swim, but did smoke, drink some wine, and chat with quality folks. good times.

another take on episode III

on the whole, i definitely don't agree with this guy's appraisal of star wars episode III. but he does make some good points. the fact that none of the jedi's sensed the looming conspiracy against them, and the fact that all but a few of the jedis were so easily slain, is troubling indeed.

i still agree with sauce that episode III was good. the review linked above might be discredited in light of the fact that the author implies he thinks all six movies suck. regardless, might be worth your time to give it a read.

til tomorrow

tomorrow, rusans opens here in athens. for many months, the arrival of this refined sushi-serving establishment has been eagerly awaited by individuals such as 4KS contributor mcsquared and oceanchum's kenniebloggins. they look forward to dining on rusans' delectable cuisine, as well as likely ogling the wait staff. 4KS wishes them the best on this long awaited day.

[from this week's onion]

AREA MAN TIRED OF MAKING EXCUSES FOR RAPIST FRIEND

OGALLALA, NE—After nearly a decade of friendship, Jake Fitzwater said Monday that he is getting sick of standing up for his buddy Raymond Bauer's rapist behavior. "Whenever someone would accuse Ray of crossing the line, I used to say, 'He doesn't mean anything by it—that's just Ray being Ray,'" Fitzwater said. "I thought he'd grow out of it, but I've known him for nine and a half years now, and he's still at it. Defending him really puts me in an awkward position." Fitzwater added that if Bauer fails to control his predilection for nonconsensual intercourse, he might skip the rapist's Fourth of July barbecue.

a few hastily composed haikus

sauce plays in astra.
astra’s music is decent,
their marketing lame.

“starseed called astra”
sounds ridiculous and trite.
get over your selves.

astra’s new album
called “songs for the living sky”:
tunes good, title dumb.

feel free to join the fun and come up with your own!

my profound soapbox

i imagine that, among the handful of people who might read this blog, when it comes to political stances there is a similarity of political view. in posting a link to a new york times op-ed piece, i doubt i'm opening any eyes. but this article hits on a value/concept that is important to me.

conservatives are all the time waxing nostalgic about the golden age, when marriages never ended and there was a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage (and homosexuals kept quiet about it). but said "golden age" was not brought about by trickle-down economics and laissez faire government. it's a historical fact that it was brought on by progressive tax policy, strong unions, and a newly installed social safety net. hippies and pinkos are not responsible for the death of the american dream, ronald reagan is. and the current regime is poised to finish the job.

there's really no point to this post, i just wanted to briefly pontificate. have a lovely weekend, loyal 4KS readers. you too, saucy.

more bullshit to come?

so i guess astra is putting together a new website. i grudgingly concede that it is aesthetically well-put-together. it does, however, lack content at this point. only time will tell if said content will continue astra's trend of absurd and pretentious self-promotional verbage.

what you've all been waiting for...

If Astra wrote songs like "Bowl of Shit" and "Let me Piss in Your Pussy," I just might go to one of their shows.

These guys have entered a new territory of disgust. Enjoy!

ray allen was way out of my league

so this is going to be the last time i'll issue a half-hearted apology for posting a link. though in theory i like the purity of blog made up entirely of commentary, in practice i am neither creative nor patient enough to compose one.

this article comes right into my wheelhouse, hitting my two most notable areas of constant overanalysis: basketball and girls.
