The Falcons

I went to my first Falcons game a couple of weeks ago and I'm finally getting around to posting about the experience. I'm so used to watching the ineptitude and lack of discipline of college teams like the illustrious Dawgs that I forgot that teams can go through games without 10 personal foul penalties, 5 pass interference calls, move the ball down the field in a methodical fashion, and play a little defense. Our seats were 5 rows back, so that was pretty sweet (We got them last spring when everyone thought the Falcons would suck this year). I've never had seats so close for a pro or college football game. Since we were so close I thought I'd get to see some heads get smashed in, but it was actually surprisingly tame in real time. It was also kinda weird to watch a game in the dome. The climate controlled atmosphere was odd, but kinda nice. People didn't stand up much during the game, even though it was a comparatively big game for the Falcons (they were playing the division leading Panthers), so it was a little hard to get pumped. The crowd was about 50/50 black and white, many of the white dudes for some strange reason looked like former members of an 80s hair band --definitely a different crowd than the swathes of frat guys, sorority girls, and rotund and sun-burnt alumni at the Georgia games . Anyway, here's a recent article worth reading about the Falcons from the NY Times.

it's interesting to see some of how atlanta is perceived in context.

ryan is a beast. 14 TDs and 7 picks so far as a rookie. i'm not certain that i'd trade him for any other young quarterback in the league (cutler? romo?).
