My favorite answer is (e).
I also like the fact that only one of the bands is actually a "grunge" band.

certainly conventional wisdom would say that nirvana and pearl jam were both grunge... i'm guessing that you don't consider nirvana to be? if so, by what rationale?
i obviously concur that sonic youth is not.
no. i don't consider pearl jam to be...i feel like they're more of just a classic rock band. nothing wrong with being that, obviously.
