just play "fuck and run"
like most people, i've been critical of liz phair and her new polished sound. i stand by that. but even if i still don't want to buy her new records, this nytimes piece at least makes me think she's still cool. or at least i feel like i better understand where she's coming from.

i almost posted about this as well.
i have nothing but the utmost respect for people who are unpretentious about wanting to make a living and be comfortable...i.e., the part of the article where she says the last album enabled her to have a car and a house.
although there'll always be a little nagging part of me that sees commercial success as a complete betrayal of one's talent. not because commercial success is inherently bad or evil, but because it almost always denotes a certain level of "washing down" of one's edginess. compare "fuck and run" to "why".
oh, liz phair.
i have to admit that i liked that hit single off the last record - not necessarily as a liz phair song, per se, but just as a top 40 cheesy pop tune. it was good. sasha frere-jonees picked that album as his top of the year, i remember, which did confuse me.
