bon voyage, jchill.
i can't believe this.
it may not entirely be the hawks fault, the offer was way more than they could pay him. and i don't blame childress, taking lots more money to play and living in athens greece sounds good to me (free housing, free car, basically no taxes...more free flowing style of play). still, atlanta is starting to feel cursed in a clipperish way. the hawks only had three reliable players (joe, horford, chill); now they're down to two. at this point i concede they have to keep smith, can't lose both joshes.

I agree wholeheartedly. In ten years when some announcer is trying to describe how wretched the hawks are will say, "This is the same franchise that let the glue of their young, promising playoff franchise go to Greece." And while this is not necessarily all the Hawks' fault, their is some sense that they've just been jerking Smith and Childress around and it finally burned them. Now they'll probably swing too far the other way, sign Smith to a max deal and still have screwed up

some people are speculating that childress' departure can partly be blamed on resigning mike "the worst coach in the nba" woodson. this following smith's public declaration that he doesn't want to resign to play for woodson. i can't believe the hawks gave that gump an extension.
My friend is also moving to Athens, Greece for more money. Maybe they can hook up.
