Grim thoughts on the ATL Hawks
This opposing scout is a bit of a pessimist, but he has no love for you 2008 Atlanta Hawks. While I don't agree with everything he says and he's a little dismissive of players who obviously have talent (like Marvin Williams) I think he hits the nail on the head with Josh Smith. Sign to a long term deal at your own risk, Billy Knight.

i'm afraid this guy is about right on everybody. josh smith might have the best hops in the league, but he's a dumb player. has no go-to moves, no feel for the game. he will try to pass the ball some times, but he just doesn't have the instincts. they should think seriously about trading him for a center rather than signing him long-term for big money. because he does have a lot of trade value.
i think he's kinda right on marvin, too. even though he was a carolina guy, i never understood why he was considered a "surefire top 5 pick". the writer makes a good point about change of direction. but though marvin has his limitations, i agree he could mold into a solid player if he toughens up a bit.
would like to see a tad more props for childress. while he is probably a career backup, i think he's a really good one. hard working, plays three positions, runs the floor. in truth, despite josh smith's impressive stat line i think the hawks might be better with childress in the lineup.
lastly, he's kinda right about joe johnson. he's a top notch talent, but more in a pippen way than a jordan one. he doesn't have the disposition to be a leader. though law, a vocal player, could end up being a good pairing with him. and yes kenny, horford should be a good (though not great) pro.
Horford is a good fit for the Hawks b/c he's team oriented and willing to do the dirty work. Hopefully he'll rub off on some of the other players but that's a tall order.
me and steph are going to the opener to see the mavs if any of you guys are interested.
