life aquatic is way under-rated. could be anderson's best.
Definitely under-rated, but I'd still put it third, behind "Rushmore" and "Tenenbaums"
it's a hard call for sure. tenenbaums is my initial impulse pick, but in hindsight i think on some degree it was overwhelmed by the ensemble cast. i know you for one hate ben stiller's character.
rushmore is a tough call as well. i guess life aquatic is a little more fantastical, in a way that works for me. but rushmore is amazing, and is also notably for being the origin of bill murray's amazing late era shtick.
