mcmtl waxes about tv shows
good piece on "entourage" today in the nytimes. that show is the shit, and you should watch it if you don't already. one highlight of the article:
"Entourage" represents so vast an improvement over HBO's "Sex and the City" that it makes that show seem, in retrospect, like nothing more than a one-note celebration of pluckiness, devised for a tweener reading level. By contrast, "Entourage" does not patronize its characters or its audience: it is a multilayered, adult and thoroughly funny show about various male fantasies of teamwork and individualism.
in case you think that assessment is a gender thing, the article was written by virginia heffernan. i'm not one of those guys who hates on sex and the city; i always thought it was a decent show. but entourage is in a different stratosphere. it makes sex and the city look like will & grace.
on a sidenote, i think it's better than arrested development as well. arrested development is good, but i don't think it's worthy of the hubbub it gets (much like sideways). it seems to strive for cheekiness in a slightly contrived way. reno 911 is better.

I agree, Mikey. Entourage is a great show. Although, I've only seen the first season. Sex and the city just seemed to make me tired. I'm also a fan of Arrested Development, even though I haven't seen that many of the episodes...
Did I mention that War of the Worlds was fucking awesome?!
yeah, almost everybody seems to be saying that. i need to check it out.
also, i didn't mean to say arrested development is bad, only that i feel like it gets a little more credit than it deserves.
Sex and the City is so punny and cheesy sometimes. it sure is pretty to look at, and there are some good laughs, but now everyone is trying to compare every life experience to a S&tC episode, and that gets lame.
I ahve been trying to watch Entourage for ages now.
Arrested Development roolz; Empty Nest droolz.
are we soul mates, MK? I tried to rent Entourage this weekend, but they didn't have it so I got Reno 911 instead.
I would suggest seeing House of Wax at the Ga. Square 5. A true bang for your buck.
"he got a little stick-time, garcia style"
i like curb your enthusiasm and six feet under. that curb your enthusiasm episode with Shaq is some of the funniest shit i've ever seen. 30 minute episodes are good for my short attenton span too. i haven't seen entourage. you can't stop them bitches at HBO.

FYI,
Newsradio is now available on DVD.
ghostface, i agree that entourage (like sex and the city) is designed to invoke character empathy. i just don't think that's a bad thing. on a sidenote, i never think "why can't my life be like that", i just think "people really do act like that."
i never liked news radio much, but then again i only watched an episode or two. still, i always equated it with "just shoot me", with andy dick paralleling david spade.
curb is obviously the shit. anybody know when are they putting out new episodes?
my favorite cast members from reno are as follows: junior, jones, dangle, rayneesha, garcia, trudy, and "slut-cop". but i like them all, even slut-cop.
i also used to love the larry sanders show. that was quality.
garcia, rayneesha, junior, jonesy, dangle, trudy, slut-cop
mcMtL,
You must revisit News Radio. You will see that it is in a different universe from Just Shoot Me and rivals "Get a Life" for most under-appreciated sitcom.
nice call, deuce deuce. i think i actually agree with your list more than my own.
I coulda did that if I wasn't on my period.
