shouldn't he be in jail anyway?
even as he scores at an unreal clip and drags the lakers back into playoff contention, we are reminded of why kobe is a bitch. the following is taken from the recap of the 1/19/06 overtime loss to the kings, in which kobe dropped 51:
"Bryant played the entire first quarter and demanded the ball on almost every possession. He finished the first half with 26 points, but grew visibly frustrated with his teammates -- particularly Odom -- when they didn't pass to him every time down the court."mind you that's the first quarter (we're not talking about crunch time here). what a fucking asshole.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Huevos posted this just to provoke me, and I'll fall for it. I actually saw that game, and there are a few facts that this analysis leaves out. 1. Kobe was absolutely abusing whoever was guarding him in the first quarter. 2. Kobe would have single-handedly won that game had Odom not blown it in the last minute 3. For what it's worth, I only saw one demonstration of what the article described, and that was replayed 3 or 4 times by TNT. 4. During his ball-hogging first quarter, the Lakers scored 31 points, a great offensive effort by any standard.
That crazy Kobe! What a great team player!
obviously the dispute is not about whether or not kobe is good. he's clearly the best perimeter player in the league, skill wise. he can abuse almost anybody who guards him, on any night. but...
his team is hindered, both in the short-term [during the game] and in the long-term [during the season], by the contempt he shows his teammates. they're never going to play with confidence when they feel uninvolved and sense his scorn whenever they dare to try to create a shot on their own. jordan demanded the ball at least as much, but he didn't glare at pippen every time pippen took a bad shot. particularly not in the first quarter of a regular season game.
ok. for those of you who don't know, kobe dropped 81 pts on the raptors last night. pretty badass. i think that's the most one player has scored in a game since wilt went triple digits.
