short reviews from sunday theatre hopping:

American Gangster - this was a great cop flick, very much in the spirit of french connection and serpico. also slightly wire-ish in that equal time (and some empathy) is given to the "bad" guy. both leads deserve oscar consideration, as does the film.

Darjeeling Limited - unlike most folks, i really enjoyed life aquatic. but this flick was disappointing, clearly the weakest of wes anderson's canon. a couple memorable lines ("look at these assholes"), but no movement in the characters. pre-feature short was ok, very glass family; but the natalie portman nudity was weak.

That's bullshit that they're playing the short now after they made such a big deal out of not including it. I still haven't seen it.

i went to see Control and thought it was pretty well done. maybe not as good as purple rain. made me want to go re-buy those joy division records i used to have...
i actually liked Darjeeling, but i can see where your observations have some merit.
last night i watched 70s horror flick The Sentinel. i was totally stoked but found it pretty disappointing. how can you have a really good horror film when 75% of the movie takes place outside, in daylight? no claustrophobia. no real horror...

I agree with your Anderson sentiments...
